The Dominican Republic is the site of Christopher Columbus’s first landing and the home of Sammy Sosa. Its rich cultural heritage, balmy weather, beautiful beaches and friendly people have made it a popular destination for tourists from Europe and North America.
In response to the growing need for modern, hurricane-resistant facilities, many new infrastructure projects and hotels are concrete. The increased pace of construction has caused local contractors to look for productive concrete forming systems.

Maureni Bournigal, Project Manager for Hormigones del Atlantico (Atlantic Concrete) approached Symons® by Dayton Superior about his concrete column forming project for the new six-hundred-room Iberostar Hotel in Playa Plata. Plans called for many square structural columns. He expressed concern about learning how to use new systems quickly, safely, and productively.

Symons proposed using Steel‑Ply for the columns and offered to visit the site to familiarize the contractor and his crew with the new equipment and procedures.

When the forms and the Symons representatives arrived, Mr. Bournigal was impressed with the products and the technical assistance he received. Marveling at how all his concerns were addressed, he said, “I am very grateful for all of the support at this critical stage.”
